we focus on mc repressing their emotions, but let's look at tyril for a second. i don't think him becoming so much more emotional/touchy-feely is caused solely by mc being gone for a year. i think he doesn't want to say it out loud (which is what is bothering him so much), but he realises how dangerous this journey is, that valax is hunting his love and will not give up. he knows mc might truly not make it out alive given how powerful valax is, and how they barely managed to escape her. he confesses his feelings because he knows he might not have another chance to do that.
